We read a fair few blogs here at feather the nest
, and in the past have shared some of our discoveries over at Mini Style Blog
. So when we came across a feature of little Ellia's room, we knew that it was another room tour that we had to share. Ellia's clever mama is Natalie of Glitter and the Girls
fame and her styling of Ellia's room is simply beautiful. Here is a sneak peak, but head over here
to to see more. We particularly love the gallery wall and bedding! Thanks so much for sharing Ellia's room Natalie - you are one talented mama! xx
There are many talented and inspiring mamas out there, so we thought that we'd start a new feature on the blog that shared a few of our favourites. Better Snacks
is first up. As a busy working mama, I'm often at the supermarket trying to hurridly decide which version of a particular product is better for my kids.
That's where Better Snacks
comes in. Rae takes the guess work out of choosing which is the better snack, by reviewing how much sugar, fat and salt content is in products that are regularly requested by kids. We love that the blog features products that are readily available in NZ supermarkets and it's Rae's honest and real approach to feeding her own two kids makes the blog feel very relatable and helpful. We're also pretty excited that Rae is open to reviewing your favourite products so drop her a note if there's something you'd like to know.
Head on over here
to see her latest review xx
Some of the feather the nest team are off on another buying trip this week - this time to Shanghai! Any tips or places they must visit? Those of us staying back at the office can't wait to see what they little gems they pick up! xx
Personally, as a parent, one of the most stressful notes that comes home from daycare and school is 'Don't forget that it's dress up day on Friday'! As a working Mum, a mad panic generally sets in as I realise that I'm not going to get anywhere near a toy store before the weekend. So when a fellow working Mum sent me the link to these free downloadable Superhero cuffs, I immediately book marked them, knowing that in the future I'll be able to print them out and turn a standard cape and tights into a Superhero outift in no time. Thanks so much Kate over at Kate's Creative Space
- you've saved this working Mum from some panic in the future! Click here
for more info and for the downloadable pdfs xx
Pineapples seem to be everywhere at the moment and when we came across this beautiful free printable pineapple wrapping paper, we knew that we needed to share it with you! Thanks so much to the clever team over at Whimsey Box
- you can now have your own little pineapple party! Clink here
for more details xx
Bunk beds have been a hot topic here at feather the nest for the past few days, as one of the team is looking at sleeping arrangements for their expanding family. Whilst researching (read browsing Pinterest for hours) options, we discovered that bunk beds have come quite a long way since most of the team were kids and we were pretty impressed at the selection of modern and spacious bunk bed options around. Below are a few of our faves. Click on photos for links xx
We've had some great feedback from some of you after our blog post on playrooms, so we thought that we'd share a few more of our feather the nest favourites. Pinterest is full of creative and inspiring ways to decorate your kid's bedrooms, and we've noticed a recent trend where swings and slides are being brought inside and into kids bedrooms and playrooms. We love them. Click on images for links xx
As much as I love that our kids enjoy actively setting up imaginary shops, or building train tracks that run the length of our house, there are some afternoons where I wish that I could shut the door and hide the mess that is ensues. I've often thought how great it would be to have a kids playroom where they could leave their imagined worlds set up, all ready to go for tomorrow's dreaming. I'm inspired by all of the below, and hopefully one day, we'll have enough room to make a playroom a reality. Until then, we'll continue with our 'let's just tidy up at the end of each day' mantra.

This is a relatively easy DIY project this week. The clever Jenny from Hello Bee
posted this project a while ago, but crowns are never out of fashion and these gorgeous little numbers would make a great addition to any dress up box. Or you could make several of them and hand them out as favours at your next child's birthday party. For instructions and more info visit www.hellobee.com/2012/05/30/diy-felt-crown/
We love it when people share their clever ideas for kids and think it's even better when they're happy to share them for free! Play kitchens and toy food are a rather big deal in one of the feather the nest team's house at the moment and when she came across these gorgeous free printable fruit, she knew that it was something that she had to share with our feather the nest family. Here at feather the nest, we believe that learning to read and becoming lost in a good book are vital in helping to develop kids' imagination and that books should be available and accessible in every kid's bedroom. However as any parent or grandparent knows, a love of reading and books comes a whole new storage challenge. If books aren't easy to grab and put back, then kids are less likely to choose to read. When looking for "easy-to-access but also easy-on-the-eye" storage inspiration, Pinterest has plenty of ideas. Here are a few of our favourites. All links are in images x
This has to be one of the sweetest and most clever DIY projects that we've come across. The clever Katie Shelton, from A Beautiful Mess, has created a very easy to follow, DIY guide to creating your very own plantable felt garden box. It's the perfect indoor project as we head into Autumn and Winter. Katie's instructions and more info can be found here - www.abeautifulmess.com/2014/03/diy-plantable-felt-garden-box.html x
Whilst we love lots of white and neutrals here at feather the nest, there is something refreshing about accents of colour peppered in with those neutrals, particularly in kids' bedrooms. Lately we're loving the hints of orange that are coming through. Here are a few of our favourites (all links are in images) x
We LOVE this rug...
And this teepee... who wouldn't want to crawl right in there?
We love this mural too...
These cushions add just the right amount of colour to this older kid's bedroom...
And how can you go past a bright orange Eero Aarnio puppy?
We read a fair few blogs here at feather the nest
and one of our all time favourites is Mini Style Blog
, a collection of beautiful products, stylish DIY ideas and photos of inspirational nurseries. They recently featured the playful and colour laden room of Nicolas. We particularly love how 'real' this room is, which is refreshing in a world of immaculate and very perfect Pinterest photos! Thanks for sharing your little boy's room Katia. We think it's gorgeous. See the feature on Mini Style Blog here - http://www.ministyleblog.com/blog/nicolas-room-tour2722014
It's a beautiful sunny Sunday here in Auckland, which means that packing coats and scarves into suitcases seems a little odd, but there's good reason for it - some of the feather the nest
team are off to New York City today. Don't worry, the store will still be open whilst they're away, so please let us know if there's anything that you need. They'll be keeping the rest of us back home updated with their adventures over on Instagram, so follow us @featherthenestnz
and come along for the ride! x
One of the best things about social media is it's ability to introduce you to new products, people and blogs. We came across this gorgeous nursery this morning and thought that you'd all agree that it was one of the most beautiful spaces we've seen in a long time. Emma, at Beau Monde Mama, is based in New Zealand and has kindly provided notes on where she sourced all of the items she's used. We love the peachy tones and we're pretty impressed with the news that Emma created the feature wall in this room herself!
See Emma's blog for more photos and more lifestyle, fashion and beauty, DIY and baby inspiration!
Thanks for sharing your little girl's new room Emma - we think you've done an incredible job.
Some of the feather the nest team are off to New York in a few weeks, on the hunt for some new products to add to our feather the nest family of suppliers. I hope that the weather warms up as it looks freezing over there at the moment.
The buzz in our office around the upcoming New York trip had me searching for travel inspiration for kid's rooms on Pinterest this morning. One trend that caught my eye was the use of large maps as art in kids' rooms. There's something magical about the adventures that await a new life and maps are a great way to encourage little people's imaginations. Below are a few of my favourite...

Have you got any favourite places we should visit in NYC?
There's something calming about the combination of white and grey, especially in kids rooms. We're about to start renovation number 2, so I'm looking for ideas for our little one's new room and found loads of inspiration on Pinterest. Interestingly enough quite a few of them also contain animals!
Check out our Pinterest board for these images and their sources - pinterest.com/feathernestnz
Are you a fan of the white and grey combination too? Or do you prefer to push the boundaries with colour in kids rooms?
